Housekeeping

A little heads up just for those of you who might not know, internet is not free for us here on board. I (Grace) have personally linked my gmail account to my email here (bgweik@semesteratsea.net, Liz is ermarshall@semesteratsea.net) and am notified if comments are left on my Facebook account, but I am not able to follow links or respond to messages. By all means, please keep commenting there - I would love to be able to come back and see them all on my page and be able to share them with others - but if you want a response please, please, please feel free to email me here, which is cheap as free. I also have 24-hour access and love to hear from anybody back home, even if it's just to drop a quick hello. I am working on postcard correspondence, so please redirect your addresses here. Also, it is possible to mail things to our next ports of call for us to pick up once the ship has docked, and directions for that are posted below. One final point - my own network is very limited, as seen by the number of people actually following this blog. Please pass this link and my email address on to anybody and everybody, forward it through email or link me up on Facebook. Not only would I love to share my stories with everybody and receive feedback, but all miss hearing from home. Comment, share, spread the wealth, and we will happily return the favor.

Airmail: Currently the U.S. Post Office recommends sending international mail at least two weeks prior to the arrival of the ship. Please keep in mind that mail service in other countries may vary. Letters should be sent Airmail only. Please do not send any mail to the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) or to the University of Virginia to be forwarded.

ISE does not recommend sending packages to the ship - Excessive duty is charged in some countries. In many instances, packages are held in customs or at local post offices and are not processed in time to be delivered to the ship. If you send packages, you do so at your own risk. We strongly discourage sending currency and other valuable items. In many countries, it is illegal to send medication or food.

Disclaimer: Mail delivery to the ship is dependent on many outside factors and entities that are out of the control of ISE. Therefore, ISE cannot assume liability for lost, damaged or undeliverable items or the cost associated with the return of such items.

When sending mail please mark MV Explorer – Fall 2009 Voyageon the first line and “Attn: Participant’s Name” on the second line. The Port Agent’s Address (from the list below) should be written on the subsequent lines.
